Winter in Seattle

Ok, so I'm officially in the thick of my first Seattle Winter. So far it haas be characterized by rainy days and dark nights. I got myself a Happy Lite and it has been getting quite a workout although I think that it has been nice to have it.

What I need to take a picture of and post is a picture of the beautiful twilights that have been the norm here in Seattle. It is right before dusk that the skies normally clear and then as the sun goes down you get to see the nice red sky. I really like that about the winter here. Sometimes if I'm down stairs in the living room where I can see the view outside I marvel at the joy of the sunset.

I'm not sure why the rain here seems oddly reassuring...its kind of nice I think...

First time to the Sound

I went out to lunch with my boyfriend and two co-workers today. The weather was a comfortable 60 degrees and the sun peeked out from time to time. It was a very fun outing. I had seafood at Pike's Market and then walked the downtown streets.

This area is so beautiful. The one thing that strikes me today is that in addition to the beautiful scenery, the people seem to have a flavor to them too.

Just signed the lease on my new home

I'm in Seattle right now and I must say that I love the area. My first order of business was to find a home to live in.

Coming from Tulsa, OK I was very spoiled when it comes to the square footage that I get for the money. I knew that I wanted to get at least a 3 bedroom house with at least 2 full baths and at least 2000 sqft. Fortunately for me, Seattle is recovering from the housing bubble. I found the cutest renovated 2300 sqft home in Tukwila, WA.

I know that Takwila is normally not the place that people recommend but the house was so cute. Even the realtor was shocked that the home and the area was so nice. I'm literally living on a hill with a nice view and I love how cute the house is.

Here is a picture of the view I see from the front of my humble home. It was well priced, and I'm excited to move in.

Trip out to Seattle on May 19th

There's not much to update at this point in time except that I've finally booked our tickets to go to Seattle on May 19th. I'm really looking forward to it...LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN!

Seattle Rain and Black Hair

Ok, so if you can't tell by my picture I'll let you in on a little secret...I'm african american (lol). I'll let you in on another secret...rain water and african american hair doesn't always mix. Heck, there's not much that mixes well with my hair including salt water, chlorinated pool water, etc. That's why its going to be crucial for me to get my hair game going when I get out there.

Most people can understand how hard it is to find someone that you like to style your hair. After a few years in Tulsa I found someone here who does a great job and its going to be hard to leave that. That's why when I take my house hunting trip in a couple weeks, I'm going to have to do a hairdresser hunting trip too.

I've been looking online and I see some possibilities. There's one salon that I saw that had some really nice short hair cut pictures that I am really excited about visiting since I have a short cut now. I plan to interview the stylists, and then possibly do a trial styling...

I'm also going to have to scope out the beauty supply stores in the area...this will be quite the fun adventure...lol

Moving to Seattle

Hello, my name is (not sure I'm ready to include it yet). Just to give you a little information about myself, I was born in Philadelphia, Pa in the mid 70's. I grew up in Philadelphia and then moved away when it was time for me to go to college. Since that time, I've lived in the Hampton Roads VA area, the Washington, DC metro area, and most recently Tulsa, OK. I am now planning to move to the Seattle area in July.

I decided to start this blog because I've never recorded my experiences in any of the places that I've lived and since this is the beginning of another journey, I thought it would be perfect to blog about the move and then the experience of getting acclimated in the Seattle area. I don't plan this to be my final destination but I plan to have fun and enjoy the experience.

I've just accepted the job in Seattle so at this point I am beginning to make the steps to move such as selling my home in Tulsa and finding a new home in the area. First impressions from Craiglist is that the prices seem to be a bit inflated for home sales...I think I'll rent.
